 Hey web surfers,
Doug Barkley here, managing director of World Gumbo.
People often ask me where we came up with our unique name.
Here is the skinny:
Because of its rich diversity, the U.S. is often referred to as a 'melting pot.' YUCK. That is such a bland way to look at the amazing opportunities we have for learning and sharing in this country. The results of things being put in a melting pot is that everything loses its identity and becomes mush ( I visualize the mush being gray). Not very appetizing.
Now to define the same reality, the same incredible opportunity, as World Gumbo leaves a completely new and uplifting taste in one's mouth. We each keep our uniqueness but get to soak up some of the cool spices of those around us.
As anyone who has ever eaten Gumbo knows, it is served over rice. At World Gumbo we abide by a four word motto that fits the letters that makes up the word RICE.
